According to common, well known, figures, each day approximately 22 US Veterans commit suicide. 22!  Seriously.  1 is an outrage and a tragedy.  Short of suicide, our brave men and women (military and first responders) across the nation and abroad are STRUGGLING with symptoms related to PTSD and other byproducts from defending the front lines.  Among the many great things taking place during the Emerald Coast Honor Games, honor and a call to action are top priorities.  This year's featured sponsor is SHIELD OF FAITH MISSIONS (SOF).  Come out and meet these great folks with great resources available to come along side your journey or the journey of a loved one in need.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

 

With the world’s largest US flag as our backdrop, we plan to send a strong message (220 people to be exact) that we, (the community at large) stand behind and in support of our military and first responders!  It is that spirit, in which, the Emerald Coast Honor Games presents the 3RD annual “Ruck 22.”  This is an honorary ruck/march/walk in which the entire community, children included (with parents present) are invited out to join, mingle, march, and go down range with real soldiers to complete 22 laps around the track at Destin Middle School.

 

New this year, we are also featuring the "Ruck 22 Challenge."  Test your grit and complete all 22 tasks for time.  This is open to all ages and abilities.  Movements will include running, Burpees, jumping, sit-ups, and other common movements that can be adjusted to accommodate ANY fitness level or movement limitations.  You decide...do the traditional 22 laps OR the 22 challenge.  See registration link below!  Also be sure and see the proposed schedule for the day.  Ruck 22 will follow the "Honor Breakfast."  You don't have to do breakfast or the fitness competition to participate.  If you would like to join us for breakfast, the schedule is set up for you to be able to do so and also have time to watch the competition afterwards, if you are so inclined!

Coach Jennifer Gaddy with Bluewater Multisport will be heading up our Ruck 22 Challenge event! As we know, registration is now open.  For $22, which includes a cool Ruck 22/SOF t-shirt, someone/anyone/any ability/any age can choose the traditional Ruck 22 March/walk OR they can choose the new Ruck 22 "Challenge."  The challenge includes 22 items, done in succession.  The challenge is certainly to complete everything, but to take the challenge to another level, the participant can try and complete everything in less than 22 minutes!  So...

1.    2 laps around the track
2.    22 Burpees (can be scaled accordingly)
3.    22 Box jumps (can be scaled to step ups)
4.    22 Sit-ups 
5.    22 Jumping jacks
6.    22 "High knees" (total for both legs)
7.    22 "Butt kicks" (total for both legs)
8.    22 Kettlebell swings (athlete chooses weight)
9.    22 Air squats
10.    22 Calf raises
11.    22 seconds of rest
12.    22 seconds of rest
13.    22 Calf raises
14.    22 Air squats
15.    22 Kettlebell swings (athlete chooses weight)
